Assignment three John Piper 1903-1992 Whilst researching landscape artists, I studied the work of John Piper and was particularly drawn to the paintings I have selected here... 'St Mary Le Port', 'Covehithe Church' and Somerset Place, Bath'. I feel inspired by his chosen subject matter and the mixed media he has used to create a mood, the weather conditions and a sense of familiarity of the places he has presented. The paintings are interesting. they are energetic in their abundance of marks and blocks of colour. There is texture on the ground and movement in the skies. I have felt quite fearful of the application of colour to date, always favouring the drawing and a disappointment of my use of colour has plagued me so far, although I constantly remind myself I am learning, I do feel the work of John Piper will help guide me through this assignment.
